King Winter's At It Again!

 Oh, Where Do You Come From, you little flakes of snow?
Falling, falling, softly falling on the earth below.
On the trees and on the bushes, on the mountains afar,
Tell me snowflakes do you come from where the angels are?

Oh, I pray she learns that it's far better to keep your hat on out in this weather!

She certainly doesn't seem cold. Poor Lil' was getting chilly so now were inside warming up. I didn't dare bring my camera out for fear that if I dropped it, I'd never find it! Can you believe she asked to shovel? I of course couldn't say no!

This is just how I feel today!

As I'm typing this I can hear Lily singing the mitten song in her room. 

I love these days. Plenty of reading, knitting, tea and of course snuggles! 

Gratitude Sunday..

Beeswax Kitchen Cloth Success (Tutorial to come)

I'm sure there are a few of you who have heard of waterproof cloth made with beeswax to cover and wrap food with. I had not until today. I have never used plastic wrap but I wouldn't mind an alternative for wrapping up a thing here and there. I found many tutorials online but there were a few things I thought about doing to make the process a little easier and a little cleaner. After all, working with wax can be quite messy. I like messy when it's with dirt or paint but wax on my hands isn't something I enjoy.

There is no way to avoid some mess but I think I've found a pretty good way to get a nice consistent product and I'll post a tutorial on how I made them in a few days. I couldn't do a tutorial in this terrible kitchen lighting! 

I am happy to say though, that these wraps are waterproof.

I am also going to try making a few snack bags too. I can't use PUL . I don't feel right about using it. What do you use in place of plastic in your house? I'd love to hear your tips and tricks!!!

Spring Cleaning/ Sick Day...

My week started with a cleanse. I am ready to do something about my weight, so I picked up all this stuff to help. I've been getting plenty of rest.

Plenty of raw veg and lemon water.

Now I'm sick! Although I've been hanging around with some sick people, it's hard to say whether this is actually "sick" or possibly detox. I've had a good headache for days now and my stomach is grumpy. I hope this passes!

Another Flying Unicorn...

 I knitted another Pegasus Unicorn from Linda of mama4earth  . She writes some amazing knitting patterns!

I knitted this one on size 2 needles with Cascade220 superwash. I used Cascade 220 for the wings and for the mane and tail I used some leftover Malabrigo Merino Worsted.  I knew it would be smaller than what the pattern recommends because of the smaller needle size but I thought this way it would be easier for a 3 year old to hold. I also like that it was a bit stiffer than the last one I knit using some Malabrigo I had in my stash.

My Lily has named her Rosie Posy. 

This was my first one for my Eldest daughter. This one is called Midnight. I have really been enjoying knitting soft toys for my children!

Wrapped Rose Quartz...

I had forgotten all about this quartz until Lily discovered my "secret rock pouch."

I'm not sure that the gauge of this wire is hefty enough for the size of this crystal. But for now , I like it.

Yarn Along and W.I.P

I finished my mittens. It's funny how the smallest projects always take me the longest.  I'm currently reading this Lifeways Packet. I'm hoping to attend classes starting  in May. I've always wanted to teach and I now want to teach in the Steiner "style". I've given a lot of thought to it. Although it will require some schooling (which means I'll have to wait on more babies) but, I really want to do it!

I forgot to take pictures of our watercolor St. Valentine's Day  cards but I did manage to take one before I got distracted :) I stitched them all on my sewing machine. They came out  quite nice. My Oma really liked hers.

Red And Blue Have A Tea Party....

Lily loves to paint with watercolor. She had been asking me all morning if she could paint. I wanted to work on a few things so I gave her a bit of red first.

Red wanted to be alone for a while. She wanted to "play by herself" is what Lily said. Pretty soon though, Red was a bit bored and wanted someone to play with. I asked her if Red wanted to play with Blue or Yellow today. She chose blue. I sat and knitted and listened to her tell me her story. She loves to tell the stories when she paints.

As I watched her she told me a story of how Red and Blue wanted to have a tea party. She's getting a lot better keeping her paint pots clean and wiping her brush on the edge to let the excess run out.

She really enjoys the magic of making another color and I love watching her joy and excitement as this happens.

In this picture she said it was time for Red to go with her Grandmother to the grocery store. I think she painted 5 beautiful paintings. I let them dry and used them for some Valentines. I'll post more about that tomorrow (a late K.C.C.O post) as well as some other things we made. What are you working on?

Gem Babies...

This weekend I decided to join in with the girls playing with earth clay. I made these little guys. Each one holds a different gem. They are my very own creation! What do you think?

Our Imbolc Celebration

We lit many, many candles for Imbolc/Candlemas this year!  We really wanted to capture the beauty of Fire and Ice so this is what we did......

We had fun putting colored glass stones and dragon tears into a bowl of floating walnut tea lights.

I kept finding fairy wands all over the place. There must be a few around here. 

We made a milk tart to enjoy under the soft glow of all the candles.

 

We brought our ice lanterns out to the picnic table and enjoyed our milk tart outside.

Yesterday Lily and I gathered some dried flower tops and evergreens for our ice lanterns. I like the way they look captured under the ice. I hope you too had a beautiful Imbolc/Candlemas celebration! Hopefully we get a bit more snow before spring! We haven't had quite enough yet!
